Why Carbon Offset?
Because the world depends on it
For centuries, humans have ‘progressively’ increased the volume of greenhouse gases (ie CO2) in the atmosphere. Those gases trap heat and are starting to change our climate significantly. Without getting too dramatic about this, if we do nothing there will be flooding, starvation and droughts on a global scale. It’s starting already and the tide has to be turned.
Because you can’t stop carbon emissions
Even basic activities such as travel, using electricity, working on computers or watching telly give you a carbon ‘footprint’. In business especially, companies are being increasingly held accountable for the size of their footprint – by their customers... You can certainly find ways to cut your own emissions and work with other people and organisations (such as carbon neutral energy suppliers) who do the same.
Because it makes business sense
More and more people are now doing business only with carbon neutral companies. Before long it may be compulsory but until then, it’s a distinct competitive advantage! Taking a little time to review your carbon footprint can also result in big savings. A Fujitsu studied showed that UK businesses waste £123 million per year on electricity because people don’t switch off their computers at night. *Source: .Net Magazine, July 2007
Whether it’s based on conscience, commercialism or genuine care for the environment, most forward thinking businesses now recognise the issues and are developing strategies to minimise the damage and maximise the opportunities created by carbon emissions.
